Last year we received a national lottery grant that enabled us to create the yurt space at the farm. Since then we have been able to put on some amazing events.

The 25th Birthday National Lottery Awards is the annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects and the people. The Awards are a great way of celebrating the ordinary people doing extraordinary things with National Lottery funding.

We are now in a position to offer this wonderful event space as a yoga, Pilates or holistic therapist space to local communities.The yurt is full of earthly grounding energy, a place of calm and getting away from the world as she wraps herself around the classes and holds space while the people inside engage in all that is being offered.

Having done the local research, many of our local yoga and Pilates friends struggle to find a really useful and supportive event space for their practices, so we have brought a solution to their needs.

In this century, when we seem to be moving farther and farther away from ourselves and our deeper needs, the drum, through its simplicity, effortlessness and naturalism, offers us a link back to that which we knew before technology separated us from our soul.

Through providing a channel back to our deeper nature, the drum concurrently provides those who use it with a link to others. The drum seems to have the capacity to unite all individuals who choose to experience it together. Despite race, religion, color, creed, background, or ideology, all are joined together through this ancient instrument's calling. The drum, therefore, becomes a vehicle for transporting all who utilize it, across all boundaries, to an experience of wholeness and community.

Drumming and Stress Management

Stress is basically a disconnection from the earth, a forgetting of the breath...It believes that everything is an emergency. Nothing is that important. -Natalie Goldberg

How does the drum help to relieve stress? There are numerous ways this occurs. When people drum, they are generally having fun. It is difficult to be in a playful mode and be stressed at the same time. Also, as described previously, the drum has the capacity to release negative feelings-of which stress is clearly one. When one hits the drum, he or she is placed squarely in the here and now. Some of our stress is created from past or future thoughts of fear, worry, or regret, but it is very difficult to be stressed and be in the present moment.

Gratitude

Christmas is upon us… and here we are. After spending the last couple of days reflecting upon the year, our hearts sing with so much gratitude - For all the love, support, encouragement and guidance we have received over the last 12 months

Winter Solstice
Happy Solstice to you all – The winter solstice, as midwinter, is an astronomical phenomenon marking the day with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year. It occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its maximum tilt away from the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere.

Full Moon (Saturday night)
This Saturday, one day after the winter solstice the moon will wax to fullness in the lively sign of Gemini before heading into homebody Cancer for the rest of its full phase. In other words, this weekend will encourage you to turn up then turn way down.

The moon cycles are always in our awareness in Sol Haven
We do a lot of cooking and planting aligned with what the moon is up to, so we thought it would be good to share a little about the Full Moon that is happening –

Traditionally known as the Cold Moon or the Long Nights Moon, December's full moon is spiritually associated with rest, care, and self-evaluation. It's meant to help you process the past 12 months, while preparing you for the new year to come. Not only is it good timing that this lunar phase arrives toward the end of the month, when 2019 is already on the brain, but its hosting Zodiac signs lend themselves perfectly to its energy, too.

To begin, the Gemini full moon will promote mental clarity and encourage you to speak your mind. So, first thing on Saturday, you may find the energy to wrap up old correspondences before the holidays. And you could feel compelled to reach out to your friends to tell them what they meant to you this year — or to just reminisce about 2018's wildest moments!!

Gemini is also the sign of the Twins, and therefore rules all matters of duality. This sign's realm of influence lends itself nicely to a lunar phase that's associated with both looking back and looking forward. Let yourself explore both the past and the days ahead. And, in true Gemini form, be playful with your reflections — celebrate your wins, find future solutions in your losses, and dream big for 2019.
Then, once the moon slides into Cancer (which is set to happen around midday on Saturday), you can focus on the "rest and care" parts of this full moon. The Government has announced it's rough sleeping Strategy last month promising Up to 6,000 vulnerable people will receive rapid specialist assessments and support under new measures in the government’s rough sleeping strategy.

Backed by £100 million of funding, the strategy sets out the next steps towards achieving our aim of supporting everyone off the streets and into a home, and to end rough sleeping entirely by 2027.

Following £30 million of new funding for areas with the highest numbers of rough sleepers and the launch of the Housing First pilots, this strategy was developed across government and in conjunction with the Rough Sleeping Advisory Panel which is made up of representatives from the homelessness sector and local government. It sets out a three-pillared approach:

Prevention – understanding the issues that lead to rough sleeping and providing timely support for those at risk

Intervention – helping those already sleeping rough with swift support tailored to their individual circumstances

Recovery – supporting people in finding a new home and rebuilding their lives.

promising that this system has prevention at its heart, focusing on stopping people from becoming homeless in the first place and providing them with the right support to find work and live independently.

<3 Aloe vera plants are hardy and long-lived. Wild species have been known to survive for 100 years.

<3 There are approximately 250 species of aloe vera but only 4 of them are cultivated for their health benefits. The most cultivated species, Aloe Vera Barbadensis, originated in North Africa.

<3 The aloe gel is 96% water, which enables the plant to survive in arid regions.

<3 The aloe leaf contains latex that is effective as a laxative. However, ingestion of the latex should be limited to small amounts since large doses can be toxic.

<3 Egypt’s Queen Cleopatra was said to apply aloe vera gel to her skin as part of her beauty ritual.

<3 The most valuable part of the aloe vera plant is the clear gel found inside the leaves, which contains 75 health-giving nutrients, including amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

<3 Aloe vera gel can kill bacteria, viruses and fungi owing to its naturally-occurring antiseptic qualities. The plant’s potential as a cure for cancer and AIDS has been the subject of various studies and research over the years.

<3 The skin-soothing properties of the aloe vera gel comes from compounds which stimulate growth of new skin cells and connective tissues; as well as vitamins that promote wound healing, such as Vitamins C and E. Thus, it can provide relief against insect bites, burns, sunburn and frostbite. When applied topically, it can moisturize and soften the skin, lighten stretch marks and shrink warts. Some people even swear that it can minimize wrinkles.

<3 Aloe vera has long been used in traditional medicine.

<3 Ayurveda, a system of natural healing that originated in India, uses aloe vera to treat several skin conditions as well as improve the function of the digestive and immune systems.

<3 Among the various ailments that aloe vera is believed to help prevent or cure include heartburn, arthritis, joint pain, diabetes, eye and ear infections, and high cholesterol.
